Gordon grew up in Cowiche and graduated from Highland High School. His parents, Chet & Ruby Whitney, farm apples to this day and also attend West Side. He went to Seattle Pacific University and then medical school at the University of Washington.
Marilee’s parents were missionaries in Africa, so that is where she grew up until the family moved to Yakima during her high school years. She took nurses training at YVC. Marilee’s mother Alice Jongeward also attends West Side.
Marilee and Gordon joined Wycliffe in 1978, worked in Colombia for almost four years. Since then, they have been involved in medical care to missionaries at the Dallas International Center. Dr. Whitney takes care of the medical needs of missionaries. Some live in Dallas and others travel through that area. Often they return from overseas with various illnesses like malaria. It takes a doctor with special training to know how to treat them. Dr. Whitney also writes many e-mails to missionaries around the world, answering their questions. He needs much wisdom from God for this.
Marilee works part-time in the clinic. Dr. Whitney sings in the church choir and Marilee works with small groups in the senior high group, mentors at the public high school and is involved with Bible study groups.

They have three children: John, 18, is in his first year at Taylor University, studying biology and pre-med with an interest in missions.  David, 25, is married to Allie and they have partnered with Interserve. Christine, 27, is married to Tim. She is an attorney and Tim is a pilot. They live in North Dallas.
