SERIES: “Congregational Revival: Times of Refocusing"
2008 brings with it a unique kind of challenge, turmoil and opportunity for believers in America. We face one of the most contentious and confusing presidential elections in recent history. As Christians, we have not only the opportunity but the responsibility to participate in national and global issues. But we also have great question marks in front of us. How do we address the world of war, immigration, homosexual and heterosexual sin, abortion, drug abuse, the environment, health care, and every other issue that is greatly magnified by the November election of a new president? We need to be ready to live out our faith by knowing how to decide, speak, witness, vote and act as devoted followers of Jesus.
The focal point of the national and political debate will be the Fall. We rightly pray for a revival and movement of God's Spirit in our nation. But that kind of widespread revival always begins with the House of God. It is in believers that you can "re"-vive something that is there, but has gone dormant or declined. After the revival of God's people can come an in-gathering, sometimes called an "Awakening" in our history, bringing new believers into the faith and into the church.
So we need to look for revivial first in our church. This study through the book of 1 Corinthians will address that very issue.
Going to be gone one of these Sundays? You can listen to the sermon later in the week here on our website and download the notes to follow along.
