Harold grew up as a missionary kid in Ethiopia (his mother is Alice Jongeward, a member of West Side), then graduated from high school at West Valley in Yakima and college in Yakima and Ellensburg. He trained for teaching secondary math and science. Becky grew up in Denver, Colorado. Her parents went overseas as missionaries as she started nurse’s training. Harold and Becky met at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon when they were taking the one year post-graduate Bible Course. They were married at WSBC and were involved at the church while Harold taught math at West Valley High School and Becky did nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital until their first daughter, Rachel, was born. Harold & Becky joined SIM (Serving In Mission) and went to Ethiopia in 1973. Harold taught for two years at a high school for Ethiopians. When the school closed because of the Communist revolution, Harold and Becky worked 16 years at Bingham Academy, SIM’s school for missionary children. 1992 – 2001 Harold & Becky stayed in the States to take care of Becky’s parents. They continued in SIM by working in the USA home office in Charlotte, North Carolina. 2001 - 2005, Harold & Becky returned to Ethiopia. Harold was in Administration and was the director for Theological Education and Church Ministries. Becky was guest house hostess. Currently (since May 2006) Harold & Becky are working in the SIM USA home office. Harold is in the computer department and Becky in the medical department. Additionally, Harold is still managing the Theological Education projects for SIM Ethiopia and Becky is taking a nursing refresher course. The Jongewards have two married daughters and six grandchildren.
